Smoother driving on I-5 southbound in Clark County this summer

Woodland???? Travelers along Interstate 5 will soon say goodbye to cracks, ruts and potholes and enjoy a smoother journey in northern Clark County.
Starting Tuesday, July 6, Granite Construction, a contractor of the Washington State Department of Transportation, will begin repairing the nearly 2 miles southbound section of I-5 between Woodland and La Center.
â???? Repairing our existing infrastructure is not exciting work, but it is the key, â????? WSDOT project engineer Mike Briggs said. ???? Between cracks, ruts and potholes, the concrete slabs along this highway have improved. Although people may experience travel delays this summer, protecting our roads helps ensure that we keep people, goods, and services flowing on this important interstate highway. â????Â
The work on this $7.6 million project will first grind the top asphalt of the highway section. Then, the project staff will remove and replace several cracked and damaged concrete slabs under the driving surface. They will also repair the damaged concrete slab and then cover the entire width of the highway with a new asphalt pavement.
